Sandrock Recordings

Mark/Label, 2010

Run by the Friends of the Cumberland Trail, Sandrock Recordings is non-profit record label seeking to protect and preserve the musical traditions of the Cumberland Plateau in Eastern Tennessee and Kentucky. The work began in the 1970's when naturalist park ranger Bobby Fulcher sought out and recorded traditional string band music. The region is known for its natural sandstone rockhouses, which are large rock overhangs that often provided shelter and served as a gathering place for the people of the land. These natural features and their place in the community informed the label design.
